Biography

Niels Verbaan has over 20 years of experience in the minerals industry, specializing in hydrometallurgy. He began his career at SGS, where he now serves as Director of Technical Services. He provides expert guidance on hydrometallurgical processes for ores, concentrates, and secondary feed streams, focusing on critical materials like rare earth elements, nickel, cobalt, and scandium.

Niels has authored over 40 technical papers, holds two patents, and is renowned for managing complex hydrometallurgical pilot plants and alternative metal recovery projects, including work on polymetallic seabed nodules and black mass.
